Annecy to Chamonix on Your Own

By train it is about 2 h 40 min, according to the Chamonix tourist office. Regional TER trains link Annecy to Chamonix; the last part of the line is the Mont Blanc Express, which runs from Saint-Gervais-les-Bains-Le Fayet up the valley through Les Houches to Chamonix and on to Martigny in Switzerland. Check the exact connection on the day you travel.

“We did not do this trip. When we arrived for the trip we were informed there was no combined trip available that day. We could go to the full day Chamonix this day and Annecy tomorrow. We did and are happy with that change. The original trip was 2 hours in Chamonix. Instead we took the cable car to the first stop, where you would change to the next cable car to Aiguille du midi. Depending on the weather you may want to stay at first stop or go to top. 2 hours would be rushed. The full day Chamonix is better. Next day we went to Annecy instead. It is very very scenic and highly recommended.”
